Enrichment

There are two major benefits in this mental arithmetic programme (aka Soraban, a Japanese modified version of the Chinese abacus, 1 bead on top, 4 beads below):

  • Develops the child’s left and right brain. This is because the practice activates the largest region of the brain. The child’s pre-frontal cortex or frontal lobe which controls motor function (foundation of creativity, memory, communication, and self-control), is actively working.
  • Helps to build a very good foundation on math and provide the child with the skill of speed calculation and accuracy. Consequently, once he/she achieves good mental calculation skill, the child will attain confidence in exam and self-esteem in his/her life skill later, and learn their math subject in primary school in an easier way.
